Experiments in Crowd Sourced Musique
55
alienUplink -- my musical plaything is gearing up to release two new tracks, along with a few others we've released via YouTube (or not at all!) but not yet to disc.
The E.P., entitled "Corrode" will be both freely available via Archive.org as well as offered up on one or more music download services.
That's right. You can download it for free, or get it for a fee.
Why both?
Well, the music contained therein will actually be freely redistributable. However, the free version will contain a password protected zip file. Once unzipped, you'll have a bunch of cool goodies including samples of one of our tracks for remixing, open source software to do so, and a tutorial to get you started made by yours truly.
How do you get the password? Well, outside of spending hours cracking it--you'll be able to buy the retail version which will be available in download form. With a simple e-mail of your receipt number, you'll get the password.
We're not trying to hold anything hostage here, but we would like to continue to advance our abilities in the studio so we can bring new material and more information.
Also, while not to sound Lars Ulrich-like, each track--even at three minutes-- represents hours of work. Especially when you're the producer, audio engineer, singer, composer, and everything else that one might have an official group of people for.
Crowd Sourcing
The track I'm currently cutting does not yet have lyrics. So, I'm experimenting with instrumentation and rebuilding some of what I've lost in terms of instruments, effects, and even in some respects, knowledge of mixing stuff down right.
With each song my skills grow, although I can't particularly say it's done much for my musical sensibilities. Well, actually, they're just hampered by lack of some equipment. Which I hope to acquire with the release of this disc.
Once this equipment is purchased, all new proceeds from the disc will go to open source developers so they can spend more time programming the software you'll learn to master in time as we release more tutorials.
But, back to crowd sourcing. There's a selection of three lyrics for you guys to choose from:
All links open a new tab, so feel free to click and return here. Down below are two YouTube uploads, both are instrumentation that you'll hear in the new track. The newer one just cleans up, adds effects, and levels some of the instrumentation differently.
The next release is scheduled for November, and this will include a verse or two.

I love watching as you bring things to life! The evolution of the first to the second is marvelous.
Letting us vote on the lyrics is an added bonus...I hope I chose well!
I am waiting impatiently to hear the finished product. I love that you are so willing to share your talents! :D
@Raven: Oh my, we've been so busy..hey there! Glad you like the reverb. The sound should stay, even if it speeds up/slows... ;)
@Kari Glad you like the democracy. So far it seems your choice is the winner.. :D
Instinctual awareness of one's own fallabilities and strengths, has the advantage of true independence http://hubpages.com/hub/Away--Forward is also my choice;)
Alrighty then! ;)

Ixxy you invest a lot of time and creativity in it but it sure as hell is worth it!!!
It is a fascinating digital world of audio sensation. There is so much to learn from effects, sampling, sound fonts, presets, which software produces the best specific effect. Exciting, inspiring, challenging. Cheers to you! :D
Promo 1 video sound is good but I like the wah/ reverb / effects in Promo 2 .
